Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique has extended his contract with the French giants until 2027, reinforcing his ambition to make history at the club. The Spaniard, who arrived in 2023 to replace Christophe Galtier, has already made a significant impact, guiding PSG to a domestic treble in his debut season.
A Dominant Reign at PSG
Since taking charge, Luis Enrique has won 58 of his 86 matches across all competitions (D18 L10), boasting a win percentage of 65.88%. His side has been dominant in Ligue 1, recently cruising past Monaco 4-1 to extend their lead at the top of the table to 13 points.
Following the victory, the PSG boss spoke about his commitment to the club and his desire to create a lasting legacy in Paris:
“From day one, the club has provided everything we need, and that support only motivates me to work harder. We want to make history here as a coaching staff.”
“When you feel comfortable and trusted, why set limits? I hope to repay the faith shown in me with hard work and, hopefully, great results.”
Unbeaten Run & Record-Breaking Start
PSG remains unbeaten in Ligue 1 this season with a record of 16 wins and 5 draws from 21 matches, marking only the third time in club history that they have achieved such a feat (previously in 1985-86 and 2015-16).
Luis Enrique has also set a new standard for PSG managers, suffering only two defeats in his first 55 Ligue 1 matches (W38 D15)—the lowest tally at this stage for any PSG coach.
Despite the impressive form, Enrique insisted the win over Monaco wasn’t PSG’s best performance, noting:
“The first half was balanced, and we struggled to press them. We played better in the second half, but I wasn’t happy with the final 10-15 minutes. We let Monaco have too much of the ball, and we need to improve in those moments.”
Champions League Ambitions
With Ligue 1 seemingly under control, PSG now shifts focus to the Champions League knockout play-offs, where they will face fellow French side Brest on Tuesday.
After a slow start in the expanded 36-team Champions League format, PSG secured their place in the next round with a commanding 4-1 victory over Stuttgart. Enrique believes the team’s struggles in the early stages have only strengthened their resolve:
“We’ve been through difficult moments, and that’s what makes us stronger. Those periods when only our fans believed in us have helped mature this young team.”
“We will never stop fighting. Our goal this season is clear: to compete until the very last minute and make history.”
Looking Ahead
With Luis Enrique now committed to PSG until 2027, the club’s ambitions extend far beyond domestic dominance. Winning their first Champions League title remains the ultimate goal, and the Spanish coach is determined to guide them to European glory.
With a talented squad and a tactical mastermind at the helm, PSG fans have every reason to believe that Enrique’s era could be one of the most successful in club history.
